Jump Studios | Architecture + Design Jump Studios journal http://www.jump-studios.com <![CDATA[Comic Relief]]> Wed, 04 Aug 2010 17:16:00 GMT Our project for Comic Relief's new offices at "charity towers" in Vauxhall is in its final weeks. Works are progressing quickly now with first splashes of red being painted to a series of boxes which act as a back bone for a large open plan office.

There was a host of activities going on on site today: the new open steel staircase which will connect the first floor with the ground floor was being installed, joiners were working on a series of red lacquered mdf goal posts which will cap of the open ends of the red boxes, the electrical subcontractors were busy installing the general lighting while painters were spraying last bits of mechanical kit which has been mounted visibly under the open ceiling.

The project is due for completion end of the month and will give a new home to the 300 people working for the charity which organizes Red Nose Day and Sport Relief amongst others.

Last night Jump Studios were out on the town to celebrate their winning entry for the Vitra Panton Anniversary Competition 2010 at the Saatchi Gallery. Charles Saatchi, Terence Conran and Kevin McCloud handpicked their three favourites from more than thirty customized Panton Chairs. Jump Studios were more than delighted to win the first prize against stiff competition from amongst others Fosters + Partners, Sheppard Robson, Scott Brownrigg, Pascall + Watson and Gensler. The chairs were then sold in a public auction with all proceeds going to housing and homeless charity Shelter.

<![CDATA[Panton chair anniversary]]> Thu, 01 Jul 2010 16:08:00 GMT This is our entry for Vitra's celebration of the Panton chair's 50th birthday. Designer Verner Panton spent many years designing a chair that could be moulded from a single piece of plastic, and made his dream a reality with Vitra in 1960. To celebrate 50 years of this classic design, Vitra sent us a chair to customise, with no restrictions.

In response, we decided to emphasise the outline of the iconic form by hollowing out the middle. We then drilled holes around the outer shell and threaded between them with fishing wire.
